We’ve made it to the big leagues, folks. After creating SO many 5-star mac and cheese recipes — like our best ever mac and cheese and our crockpot mac and cheese — just to name a few. But now it’s time to tackle another copycat mac recipe you already know and love!

KFC may be a fast food giant, but nothing compares to this awesome copycat recipe! A delicious blend of cheeses combined with cream, mustard powder, and macaroni noodles creates the absolute epitome of hearty goodness. 

Not only that, this KFC macaroni and cheese offers un bowl-eavable value, as it’s cheaper than heading over to the drive-through and buying it. Plus, who knows what other additives and preservatives are in KFC’s famous bowls of mac? I’d rather stick to ingredients I know — thank you very much! 

This recipe is so easy, too, that it is totally worth making your own homemade version. So eat up! You won’t believe how good it is!

KFC’s Mac – What You’ll Need 

  • Elbow macaroni: we kept it true to the original with elbow macaroni, but feel free to use your favorite pasta!
  • Heavy cream: puts the cream in creamy cheddar mac! It helps make this bowl of KFC mac rich and flavorful.
  • Mustard powder: the secret ingredient that makes this creamy mac one of its own. Don’t skip it!
  • Salt: a pinch of salt enhances all the yummy flavors of this KFC side dish.
  • Velveeta cheese: the mother of all cheeses for macaroni and cheese! You can’t quite beat it.
  • Shredded cheddar cheese: cheddar adds that extra sharp flavor that takes this spicy mac to the next level.

How to Make KFC Mac and Cheese

COOK PASTA

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. 

Then, place the noodles in the pot and cook for 3-5 minutes more than the package instructions (about 10 minutes) and drain.

ASSEMBLE

Next, add the heavy cream, mustard powder, salt, Velveeta, and cheddar cheese to the pot. 

Turn the heat to low and stir to combine all of the ingredients.

SERVE + ENJOY

Once the cheese has fully melted and everything is thoroughly mixed, serve immediately.

Ingredients 

  • 8 oz. elbow macaroni
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 oz. Velveeta cheese, ~1 cup
  • 4 oz. shredded cheddar cheese, ~1 cup

Instructions

  • If the sauce is too thick, add more heavy cream 1 tablespoon at a time.
