Baked ham and cheese sliders are always a crowd pleaser, and my version is the GOAT! You’ll love my homemade honey mustard spread paired with Hawaiian rolls, sliced ham and provolone. They feed a crowd, and I’ve literally never left a get-together with ANY leftovers of these 😏😋.

why I’m obsessed
- These ham and cheese sliders truly couldn’t be easier to make! They’re assembled in a casserole dish with a homemade honey mustard spread and then baked in between Hawaiian rolls with provolone cheese.
- Serves a crowd: Because these use an entire dang bag of Hawaiian rolls, they easily serve 12.
- Perfect appetizer or party snack: I’ve served these on every occasion from gameday to movie nights to an easy weeknight dinner when my kiddos have friends over.
What You Need for This Recipe
- Homemade honey mustard spread: I love this 3-ingredient spread! You need honey, mustard and mayonnaise, simple and so satisfying.
- Hawaiian rolls: You’ll be slicing an entire package of these — 12 rolls! It fits perfectly in a standard-size casserole dish.
- Sliced ham: Can’t have ham and cheese sliders without ham!
- Sliced provolone cheese: Feel free to use Swiss cheese if you don’t have provolone cheese on hand.
- Melted butter: You’ll be brushing the tops of your ham and cheese sliders with this melted butter halfway through the bake time. Don’t skip this ๐

Our Favorite
Casserole Dish
This le creuset casserole dish is our all time favorite casserole dish! The white color rocks, it has a cover, and it’s great for so many dishes.

How to Make Ham and Cheese Sliders
Prepare the honey mustard: Add the mayonnaise, mustard, and honey to a small bowl, and mix to combine.
Slice Hawaiian rolls: Cut the Hawaiian buns down the middle hamburger bun style, so that all the tops are still connected and all the bottoms are still connected.
Assemble the sliders: Spread the honey mustard mixture on the inside bottom of the Hawaiian rolls. Then, layer the ham and provolone cheese on top of the honey mustard sauce. Place the tops of the Hawaiian rolls on top of the meat and cheese.
Bake sliders & enjoy! Place the rolls into the baking dish and cover with tin foil. Bake for half the time, and take the rolls out of the oven and brush with butter. Place the rolls back in the oven, uncovered, and bake to finish things up. Allow the sliders to sit for a few minutes before slicing and serving. ENJOY!
Perfect Pairings
I love serving these ham and cheese sliders with a salad! I recommend my cucumber tomato feta salad, classic caesar salad, or lemon orzo salad with goat cheese.
Making this for gameday or as a dish to pass with other appetizers, I’d pair it with my ultimate Velveeta cheese dip, crockpot Velveeta mac and cheese, or this cottage cheese spinach artichoke dip.

Variations & Flavor Ideas
- Homemade honey mustard –> store-bought honey mustard: Store-bought can be used as a substitute for our homemade honey mustard when in a pinch. This recipe makes 1 tablespoon short of ½ a cup.
- Sliced ham –> sliced turkey: You could technically sub a turkey for this recipe, but the ham pairs really nicely with the honey mustard ๐
- Provolone cheese –> another mild cheese: Don’t have provolone? I recommend using another mild cheese like muenster or Swiss.
- Make it vegetarian: I’ve made these sliders with just cheese for the kiddos, and they’re always a hit.

FAQs
What kind of cheese works best for ham and cheese sliders?
Any mild cheese with high meltability will work great for this recipe. I love using provolone for this recipe, but Swiss or muenster would work great as well. You could even use pepper jack if you want a little extra spice.
Can you prepare ham and cheese sliders ahead of time?
You can prepare these sliders ahead of time up until the step where you bake them. I don’t recommend baking them ahead of time and saving for later because the Hawaiian rolls tend to dry out.
Is it better to refrigerate or freeze leftovers?
It’s honestly quite rare that I have leftovers from this recipe! When I do, I store them in an airtight container in the fridge and then pop them in the air fryer for a few minutes to warm them back up before serving.
Storage & Reheating Tips
We recommend enjoying your Hawaiian roll ham and cheese sliders immediately after baking so that they don’t get soggy.
If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. I love reheating mine in the air fryer for a few minutes, but you can also reheat them covered in the oven at 350°F until warm.
