Three Cheers For Crystal Farms

We’re midwesterners through and through over here at The Cheese Knees, which is why we’re so excited about this recipe collaboration with Crystal Farms, who also hails from the midwest and sources all of their dairy from family farms across the heartland — and they’ve been supporting family farms for over 95 years.

Made with love from the midwest — just like these breakfast taquitos that feature our favorite Crystal Farms Cheese Wraps.

How to Make Breakfast Taquitos – Step by Step

You are going to prepare one breakfast taquito at a time, but don’t worry — this recipe is still easy peasy. We’re talkin’ 4 steps:

Make the Eggs

Begin by cracking 1 egg into a bowl and whisk until scrambled. Add milk, salt and pepper to the egg and whisk until combined.

Heat a skillet over medium/high heat. Pour the egg mixture into the pan and cook the egg (without moving the eggs around) for 2-3 minutes. Then use a spatula to flip the egg round over and cook for another 1-2 minutes or until fully cooked. Remove the egg round from the pan and set aside.

Melt the Cheese Wrap

Next, using the same skillet, add one of the cheese wraps to the skillet pan and let it melt and bubble for 3-5 minutes (depending on your stove!).

Using a spatula, carefully lift the edges of the cheese wrap and when the whole cheese wrap has melted and has begun to harden, quickly flip the wrap.

Assemble Taquito

Place the egg round on top of the cheese wrap and place a piece of bacon on the edge of the circle. Then use a spatula to slowly roll the bacon and egg inside of the cheese wrap into a tight taquito.

Remove the taquito from the pan once it is tightly wrapped, and the cheese wrap is crispy.

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat

Repeat the above steps to make as many taquitos as your cheese-loving heart desires.

here’s some tips

Use any flavor of Crystal Farms Cheese Wraps for these taquitos: They offer mozzarella, marble jack, and cheddar cheese varieties. If you use the mozzarella cheese wrap, you will need to cook the cheese wrap for a bit longer to crisp it up.

The length of time it takes for the cheese wrap to bubble and harden varies: because every stovetop is different, and each of these cheese varieties have a different melting point, it’s best to judge when your cheese wrap is ready to roll based on when it bubbles and starts to harden, rather than the exact cook time.
