Yield 12
- 1 lb. 85/15 ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion diced
- 8 oz. crimini mushrooms sliced (you can also use Bella mushrooms)
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 8 oz. cream cheese
- 10 oz. frozen green beans
- 2 cups shredded cheddar jack cheese ~2 cups
- 28 oz. frozen tater tots
Preheat the oven to 350℉. Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.
Heat a large pan over medium/high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until most of the pink is gone, about 3-4 minutes. Add the onions and mushrooms and cook for another 3-4 minutes. The onions should be translucent, and the mushrooms should reduce by more than half in size. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
Add the flour and butter to the beef mixture and cook for 1-2 minutes. It will create a thin paste over the beef. Once the paste has cooked, whisk in the beef broth. Cook for 1-2 minutes while the broth thickens, creating a gravy.
Next, add the Worcestershire, salt, pepper, paprika, and cream cheese. Stir until the cream cheese has melted into the sauce.
Add the frozen green beans and mix until combined.
Transfer the beef mixture to the baking dish and top with the cheddar jack cheese. Line the tater tots up on top of the cheese. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes. Allow the hot dish to sit for 10 minutes before serving.
